Make this part of your New Years Resolution - If you are a Software Developer or Software Engineer that has never worked as a contractor before this could be a great opportunity to enter the field, earn a higher level salary (Get paid for each hour worked.) and be paid as an employee with benefits. If you are a seasoned contractor and would like not to have to hunt down another gig in 6 months, this could be a great opportunity for you as well. Contract is planned to run 12 months and it is anticipated to be extended for another 12 (automatic extension). Of course things can change and this is not a guarantee, but the same holds true for a direct hire role. To be considered you must act quickly as client would like to see you at work the 1st of the year. They will move quickly.

The department's customers have a long list of improvements that they would like to see in the core software product. You will be working on fielded applications for the most part and will be joining a small group of developers, working in a team oriented, highly collaborative environment. Depending upon the project you could be working in a Waterfall, RAD, or Scrum/agile methodology so versatility in your development methodology will come in handy. This usually comes with experience of course. You will design, develop, test and document your software.
