One of my good clients is a startup already leading the way in web applications that improve the lives of medical patients via better socially-applied health research. Currently, their mobile solutions are a responsive design, and they now are at the beginning stages of developing native mobile apps for both iOS and Android. They're seeking a principal software engineer / technical lead for each of those two mobile platforms. The company has an engineer-oriented culture, with lots of collaboration, good benefits, and flexibility (including regular WFH 1-2 days/week usually).

These are great opportunities for engineers to work extensively across internal groups such as UX, product management, and leadership, as well as with customers, to create apps that will appeal to the widest range of end users. You'll have lots of involvement in high-level architectural decisions, and be part of a collaborative team working on both front- and back-end code.

For both positions, they're seeking 4-5+ years developing professional applications for either (Android and Java or Python) or (iOS - they're using Swift but you don't have to have done it). You should have your apps already in either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. They'd like you to have some previous experience that goes beyond coding, such as working with customers, internal stakeholders, or doing some technical project leadership.

I’m Phil Hurd, the principal of Oculus Search Partners. Software professionals have trusted me as their recruiting partner for 30 years because:
  • Expertise. I earned a BSEE and MSEE, and was a computer engineer before becoming a search and placement professional. You’ll be represented by someone who understands what you do, and knows how to leverage that understanding to create opportunities for you.
  • Reputation. Over 60 LinkedIn recommendations attest to my integrity and effectiveness.
  • Network. I have personally placed, or been involved with placing, several thousand software engineers over my career, and have built a deep network with VPE’s, CEO’s, HR, etc. I can not only open doors for you, but can help you improve your resume, prepare you for interviews, and help you negotiate a strong offer package.
  • No BS. I don’t like when a salesperson pressures me, and I’m sure you don’t want that from a recruiter. You’re a professional, so am I, and my approach reflects that philosophy. And specifically, I will NEVER submit your resume to any company without prior discussion and buy-in from you.
  • Respect. I never forget that this is your job search, and your life, and our interactions will reflect that philosophy.
